Posted April 08, 2018 09:09:23When Google released its Nexus 7 tablet in February, many wondered if the device could ever be worth more than the $399.99 price tag.
Now, a new tablet from the Chinese manufacturer Cogeco may be the only one that’s worth that price tag, according to Ars Technic’s co-founder and co-CEO Adam Mosseri.
The Cogecos 8.8-inch tablet, which features a 6-inch screen and weighs 1.5 pounds, has been spotted on a Taiwanese website and on eBay, where it has an MSRP of $699.95.
Cogecos sales department confirmed that the tablet was indeed made by Cogeca and that it’s not a direct competitor to Google’s Nexus 7.
“It’s a little bigger than the Nexus 7, but it’s actually a good fit for Google’s ecosystem,” Mosseri told Ars.
“It’s more of a tablet than a tablet, so that makes it a better fit for us.
We’re very happy with the look and feel of the device, and the price is definitely the right price for the device.”
Cogecas 8.2-inch Pixel 2 tablet also sells for $499.99, which makes it more competitive with the $549.99 Nexus 7 when it comes to tablet prices.
But even if Cogecom does launch the 8.4-inch CogeCO Pixel 2 Tablet, Mosseri says it’s too early to call the device a viable alternative to the Nexus 6P.
“There’s a couple of things we’ve been doing to try to make the device more appealing to buyers who might be less interested in Google’s hardware,” he said.
“For example, it’s got a smaller footprint, so there’s less storage to worry about.
It’s also got a lower price point, and there’s also no fingerprint scanner, which is a huge plus for buyers who aren’t super familiar with Android.”
CoGeco also unveiled the Coge COX 6-in-1 tablet earlier this year, which includes a 6.2 inch screen, a 1,200mAh battery, and 64GB of internal storage.
The company also released a 10-inch Android tablet in April that had a 4.8 inch display, 1,800mAh battery and a 128GB microSD card slot.
The Pixel 2 is a better tablet than the Pixel 2 XL, but the CoGeco Pixel 2 Mini tablet doesn’t have a 4-inch display and only comes in a 128-GB micro SD card slot, according the company.
