Doan Sales Department is a better way to buy and sell than the internet, according to the sales director of the popular Australian e-commerce site.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, James Doan, who is in charge of selling e-book titles and the digital versions of his business, told the newspaper that the sales force is better equipped than the sales departments of many other retailers because it’s a “bigger team”.
Doan’s company is known for offering a broad range of products and services, and the sales manager, who said he was “just a guy who does e-books” said the department was better equipped to provide sales advice.
He said the team at Doan was “much bigger” than the staff at most other retailers, which included sales representatives, sales reps, and even sales teams.
“We have sales reps who are like experts in their field, so they can provide the sales advice and the business knowledge,” he said.
“It’s a lot of people.
It’s just a bigger team.”
Doan, whose company has been at the centre of a fierce competition with Amazon and iTunes for years, said he hoped the sales staff would one day be a major part of the Australian retail industry, providing “good customer service” to customers.
“The people in our sales team are really smart and they can tell a story about how you should buy or sell and it will be about that story that’s important to people, so it’s really important that they get to know each other,” he told The Sunday Mail.
“I think we’ve got a real advantage here because we’re so big.
We’re bigger than some of the other big retailers.
It is the best sales department in the world.”
Doaans team of sales reps is comprised of sales staff from the Doan company and an internal team from his business.
It is not the first time that the department has been criticised for its lack of customer service.
In 2012, the department lost its position as Australia’s top-selling online retailer, having fallen from third place in the rankings to sixth last year.
Doan said the sales team had not changed in the past year and that he was happy to continue to offer “good support”.
“We’ve got all the best people in the country in there, but it’s still a small team,” he added.
“A lot of our sales reps have been around for 10 years, so I think they know what they’re doing.”
Doans sales team has a number of responsibilities including assisting with customer enquiries, customer support, and helping customers find a sale on the site.
“If we’re talking about customer support we have people who work in the department who have been in the industry for decades, and they know exactly what they need to do,” he explained.
“They’re all really smart, they know the products, and if someone wants to buy it, they’re the person to go through the process with them.”
