French Lashing sold its first store in Larksdale on Monday, but it will close its second one next week because of mould.
The business, in the old Royal High School, had been operating at Lark Hall since 2009.
“We are working closely with the council to ensure the premises are maintained in a good state and the quality of the materials we use are maintained,” said the company’s chief executive, Isabelle Vincennes.
The closure is expected to take about a month.
“The mould in the premises is very serious, we have been doing our best to try to prevent it and we have a lot of work ahead of us to do this,” Ms Vincenes said.
“At the moment the mould is in the building and it is quite difficult to get into the building to try and remove it.”
It’s not the first time a French Laundering shop has closed.
Last year the company announced it would close its doors.
The Larkhill branch of French Laying said it had previously run out of money to pay staff salaries.
“Due to the low volume of our business, we had no other option but to close our doors,” it said in a statement.
French Lating was the only French Lying to reopen in the area.
It opened its doors in 2016.
“As of this date, the company has had to lay off 30 people in the local community,” it added.
FrenchLashing is not the only business to shut down over mould problems.
On Saturday the Lark Hill Shopping Centre said it was closing after a mould problem led to it closing for a week.
“A number of staff and customers were impacted,” a statement said.
The centre, which is located at Larchmont Road, was closed from 7:00am on Sunday to 6:00pm on Monday.
The decision came after the council issued a warning to residents about the mould problem, which had been traced to the centre.
“There is a significant mould problem on site, and we believe the decision to close the centre was taken as a precautionary measure,” it told the media.
